The Church of St. Alphonsus Liguori, Rome

The Church of St. Alphonsus Liguori is a church located on the Via Merulana on the Esquiline Hill of Rome, Italy. It is dedicated to St. Alphonsus Liguori, the founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, who built and staff the church. It was built between 1855 (the miraculous picture was consecrated there on 26 April 1856) , designed by the Scottish architect George Wigley. The facade is of brick and travertine and features three doors. In the central tympanum of the door there is a polychrome mosaic depicting Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Perpetual Relief, Bussolengo, Italy

The devotion to Mary under the title of Mother of Perpetual Help began on 28 November 1871 with the arrival from Rome of an authenticated copy of the sacred icon, the two hundred and seventh blessed by Pius IX and requested by Father Gerolamo Scarpieri, at the time Superior of the house of Bussolengo. Subsequently, in July 1875 it was placed and displayed in a special altar of the Church which since then became the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso.

Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Relief in Brooklyn, New York, USA

In 1892 the Redemptorists were serving in two parishes in Manhattan: at Most Holy Redeemer on East 3rd Street, and at St. Alphonsus parish on West Broadway. They were also conducting parish missions in New York area parishes. One of their earliest missions was in 1853, in the town of Flushing, Long Island, just six weeks after the Diocese of Brooklyn had been created. In 1892 the pastor of St Alphonsus Church, Fr. Wayrieh, asked Bishop Charles E. McDonnell of Brooklyn to allow the Redemptorists to establish a mission church in Brooklyn. The bishop arranged with them to establish the church and form a new parish. On November 1, 1892 the Redemptorists purchased the city block By March, 1893 all the arrangements and permissions were finalized and the parish began. It was already known that the new parish would be dedicated to Mary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help,

Diocesan sanctuary of Our Lady of Perpetual Rescue, Toruń, Poland

The original icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is located in the Redemptorist Church. Saint Alfonso in Rome. Visible in the church of St. Józefa in Toruń, a copy was made by the painter and convert Józef Burchardt in 1901. In 1902, the icon was consecrated by Pope Leo XIII for the parish in Osiek near Rypin (currently in the Płock diocese), where the parish priest was Fr. Kazimierz Przyjemski, a great propagator of the cult of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. His connections with the Mariavite movement made this cult arouse distrust among the bishop of the Płock diocese. The icon probably had to be removed from the temple.

After building the monastery and introducing the painting of Our Lady to the temporary chapel, the Redemptorists began to think about building a church. The construction of the church began in 1904, but the cornerstone was laid on April 15, 1905. The church designed by Jan Sas-Zubrzycki is built on a cruciform plan, has three naves, and the main nave is closed with a five-sided chancel. The church, practically in its shell state, was consecrated by Bishop Anatol Nowak on September 8, 1906.

The Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro is a Latin Catholic Church located in the comuna of Santiago, in the capital of Chile. It was designed in the Gothic Revival style by the religious architects Gustave Knockaert —known as «Brother Gerardo»— and Huberto Boulangeot. They were members of the Redemptorists. The foundation stone was blessed and laid on 12 December 1904. The ownership of the land to build the church had been transferred from the Ugarte family by public deed on 26 April 1876.In 1919, the Basilica was blessed with a Pontifical Mass headed by the then archbishop of Santiago, Crescente Errázuriz.

When the Redemptorist came to Baclaran in 1932, Baclaran was a small desolate village of grassland near the sea. Little did they imagine that someday, the small wooden chapel would transform into the biggest shrine in the world dedicated to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Little did they imagine that someday, Baclaran would transform into a booming town and an international pilgrim center. The phenomenon exploded after the Redemptorists began the novena in 1948. Only 70 people attended the first novena. After a week, the number of devotees doubled. After several weeks, it came to a thousand. After a few months, it came to several thousands. The rest is history!

St. Michael's Church, Mumbai

St. Michael's sees a large number of people on Wednesdays every week, when novena prayers to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour are held throughout the day. The weekly Novena services were started in 1948, when Father Edward Placidus Fernandes from Bombay noticed a similar ritual celebrating Our Lady of Perpetual Succour at Belfast, Northern Ireland, during his visit to Europe.[14] Fr. Fernandes brought with him a picture touched to the original icon at Rome. On 8 September 1948, the Birthday of Mary (concurrent with a Wednesday that year), Fr. Fernandes, as a vicar, held the first Novena services.

Novena Church, Church of St. Alphonsus, Singapore

The Church of Saint Alphonsus, or Novena Church as it is more popularly known, is a Catholic church in Singapore located at 300 Thomson Road. It is not a parish church and is under the care of the Redemptorists. The Church of Saint Alphonsus was founded in 1935.The current church was built in 1950 and was designed by the architectural firm Swan and Maclaren. Porticoes were added in the late 1950s to cater to the large and growing number of devotees coming for the Saturday novena devotions. The side walls that existed earlier in the main church hall were removed and grilles added.[10] After being closed for three years for further renovations, the church reopened on 29 September 2017.

The Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help informally known as The Mission Church is a Roman Catholic basilica in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The Redemptorists priests of the Baltimore Province have ministered to the parish since the church was first opened in 1870. The shrine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Pope Pius XII raised the shrine to the status of Minor Basilica via his Pontifical Decree Ornatur Urbs et Archidiocesis on September 8, 1954, which was signed and notarized by the Grand Chancellor of Apostolic Briefs, Monsignor Gildo Brugnola.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parque Rosario, Campos dos Goitacazes RJ, Brazil

In January 1923, the Redemptorists arrived in Campos, preaching the Holy Missions. In 1945, the Redemptorist Superiors of Rome sent an ultimatum to Brazil to the Dutch: “build a convent or leave Campos”. Then, as in the blink of an eye, in just over two years, the Dutch built the “Convent of the Priests”. Construction began in 1947 and in 1950 the priests moved to the new house and inaugurated it with the blessing of Dom Antônio Castro Mayer. Five years later, in 1955, the temple in praise of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was inaugurated. In 1996, the “Convent” church became the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and began to receive many pilgrims. The community was a pioneer in the diocese of Campos, leading movements such as the Catholic League, Legion of Mary, Cursilho and Encontros Conjugais there. In 2005, the church completed 50 years of existence.

Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Rescue, Singapore

Most of us have been attending church week after week not knowing how the church came about but it took almost seven years from conception to planning before OLPS Church was built in 1961 . The idea to build a church beyond the Katong area was first given serious consideration in 1954. It was then felt that the Holy Family Church could not accommodate the growing number of worshippers living in Katong and the then rural Siglap where more people were making their homes.
